character design work. which ended up being used for the second part of my flash vector tutorial. this one dives deeper into actually creating artwork in the program versus the first tutorial which was a small wrap up of what tools the program has to offer.
have a killer migraine that will NOT go away and i had to stop drawing this for now.
created in flash (obviously).
--- part of my "cuento de hadas" series. a project which turned into a gaiaonline b&c shop which was later morphed into a children's website currently being developed and set to launch whenever i finish my skewlin lul :{.
i want to say two things side-by-side which i hope do not offend.
i really, really, really don't like the face. she looks mean and unlikeable. for a character, this is probably necessary-- or it may just be the artist's taste. that is not a crit by any means; the work is a total success. the design as a whole is very beautiful, i love the color palette, and the body and face are expertly drawn and colored.
i have to disagree about the face looking mean. i think mags took a great approach with the character and made her look a bit more mischievous than mean. she looks like she's ready to get into some trouble or pull a prank with her grin, and her eyes are kind of mysterious because of the color. if it weren't for the bang, i might agree with you more but i think the bang just adds to the attitude of the character : )
i'm not offended by criticism. the face is part of who the character is. she isn't meant to be pretty but there's no description here so i can see how that could remain unclear to some people. i was channeling a little bit of hatchet-face/kim mcguire from the movie "cry-baby" except this character isn't as dark. i don't know if a naturally mean-seeming face/strong features automatically makes a character unlikable but i can see how it's not something everyone likes to look at.
